Krav Maga Origins
Krav Maga was created in the late 1930s and 1940s by Imi Lichtenfeld in Czechoslovakia and later developed in Mandatory Palestine, which is now Israel.
Imi Lichtenfeld, who had a background in boxing and wrestling, developed Krav Maga as a self-defense system for Jewish citizens to protect themselves against anti-Semitic violence during a period of political unrest and conflict.
He continued to refine and develop Krav Maga’s techniques during his military service in the Israeli army, and it eventually became the official self-defense system of the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF).

Lichtenfeld developed a system that was designed to be fast, effective, and easy to learn. The system also had an emphasis on using the most natural body movements, so that even those with no martial arts experience could defend themselves.
Over the years, Krav Maga has evolved and adapted to changing threats. Techniques have been developed to respond to attacks involving firearms, edged weapons, and multiple opponents. The system has also been adapted to fit various civilian and military contexts.

The techniques used in Krav Maga are based on simplicity and efficiency. They’re designed to be used quickly and instinctively so that practitioners can defend themselves and disable their attackers as quickly as possible. It has become popular with police forces, military personnel, and civilians alike because it provides an effective way of defending yourself in a variety of situations. Also, its adaptability makes it suitable for a range of physical abilities and levels of fitness.
By constantly assessing and adapting to modern-day threats, Krav Maga techniques remain at the cutting edge of self-defense.
