Check out these 4 top tips to make your Nunchaku Back Switch perfect!
The Nunchaku Back Switch is a maneuver in which you transition the nunchaku from one hand to the other behind your back in a fluid motion. It requires coordination and practice to execute smoothly. Below are 4 top tips to help you quickly learn the back switch. Watch the video, too, for more details.
Tip #1: Use Foam Nunchaku

Foam or foam-padded nunchucks with a PVC core are a good choice for beginners and general practice because they’re light-weight and easier to grip and handle. Plus when you hit yourself (and you will!) it won’t hurt as bad.
Tip #2: Don’t Grab “Too High”

Head GMAU Nunchaku Instructor, Adam Gerrald
Trying to grab too high with your empty hand is a common mistake. Your empty hand should be close to the shoulder.
Tip #3: Adjust Your Swinging Angle (Example #1)

An important detail for switching the nunchaku is to remember to align your swinging hand with the small (lower part) of your back.
Tip #4: Adjust Your Swinging Angle (Example #2)

If you have problems with shoulder flexibility, an alternate tip is demonstrated by instructor Adam Gerrald via the slide-down shoulder drill included in the the GMAU Nunchaku Course.
Practice these tips and you’ll be back switching in no time!
